GRAMSY'S BLOG UPDATED

Hi Guys and Gals

If you read my "old" blog you will know who I am, for all the new people a lttle update.

I'm Sandies Mam and Samantha,Jessica and Emilys Gramsy and the reason I joined SYTG was because I didnt get to see any of my lovely kids when shows were taking place as they are all so committed in giving there "ALL" to SYTG. so you know the saying if you cant beat em join em !

Well I've learnt an awful lot from you kids and will continue to learn as hopefully you will from us "ADULTS" !! The Committee are really kids in wrinkly skin !!

I've experienced the Auditions for the very first time and have to say I admire each and everyone of you especially those who have just done it for the very first time.

You have come so far well done.

I have just started a new career in the NHS and this will be my 45th year working in NHS and am having to do further studies so I know how hard it is to learn something quickly.we all have skills some more than others and our aim in life should basically be the same...

To take every opportunity to enjoy life
To encourage the less fortunate
Never be Judgemental
Find out the persons "Good Bits"
Never talk maliciously about anyone
Never ever intentionally hurt anyone

"Go for it "is my main motto

Nothing ventured nothing gained

Taking all this on board....SYTG Kids are oh so Cool !!!

Emily's Blog

Hi Emily here,

I have been with SYTG for over a year now. I have lots of new friends. I really like the modules because I learn lots of new things and techniques ready for the shows. I was in Seussical as a circus performer, a hunch and a who. I also was part of Joseph and his Technicolour Dreamcoat and was Benjamin. I have auditioned for Once on this Island and hope to do Les Miserable in Feb. I have two sisters Sam and Jess also at the group. I also have a mam called Sandie who is secretary of the group.

My favourite modules have been the dancing and the make up/special effects.

Sandie's Blog

Hi All

Sandie here, I have been with SYTG now for 7 years. I am secretary of the group which means I write all the letters, negotiate the venues, print, type, copy, telephone and arrange meetings for the committee. I came along when Sam (my daughter) joined the company and slowly became involved in the committee. My other two daughters Jess and Emily have since joined the group. I often find myself astounded when standing in the wings at the courage, talent and confidence shown by all of the cast during performances. I also love to see the development of the individuals who often join us for workshops shy and quiet who then work really hard every week until they become our stars of future shows.

I am very proud to be part of a group of talented young people and committed adults who give time and support free of charge for the benefit of all.

See you all soon

Sandie

On Broadway

It's coming up to showtime this week. All the SYTG PA members are completing the last finishing touches ready for the performance on Thursday.

If you want to come and see this there are only a limited number of seats left and unfortunately there are no more meals left (better bring some mints!!)

The whole cast has done fantastically well and I'm looking forward to another excellent SYTG PA production. Not to mention how much this has raised for charity already!

Anyone coming to see the show have a great night and those performing - good luck and remember you are all stars.....

Have fun,

Steve.

Lewis' Epic Blog

Hello I’m Lewis,

I have been coming to SYTG PA for eerm... well since I was just turning nine and I'm now thirteen so that’s more than 4 years which is quite a while. I never came to SYTG PA because I wanted big parts in big shows; I came because I wanted to be more confident. I think I have succeeded. I joined because Sandie, Sam, Jess and Emily in other words the Halls just live round the corner and Sandie is friends with my Mam thus making me friends with the Hallie Girls. They had joined quite a while before me and wanted me to come along. I also new Maxine Hitch, who most of you will know, before joining and Steph her daughter and her niece Rachel.

I joined back when the SYTG files were about and every week we had to fill in a form about what we had learnt that evening, they got stuck into our files and, at the end of each module, they got closely examined by Kev and Matt who used to run the some modules if you passed the good old silver certificate was awarded to you. I remember the first ever module I completed with Jean the former Chair person it was costume and make up and I felt so welcomed by everybody. Sadly Maxine, Kev, Matt and Jean have left SYTG PA. The first show that I did was Seven brides for seven brothers which was the first ever show SYTG did at the Gala theatre in Durham. I was a member of the Chorus but I had a line which I said together with Julian and Ryan two other former members which was "yes". I was quite proud of myself. This newly found confidents led me to get main parts in school plays I played Jesus in Hosanna a short musical about Jesus getting crucified and whatnot. Then I was Papa in once on this Island, my teacher wouldn’t let me be called Papa Ge for un known reasons. Then new auditions at drama came up Joseph and his Technicolor dreamcoat. I managed to get the role of Judah the last brother. I opened my script to highlight my lines and what was this I had a song it was the Jamaican one. But due to my lack of experience I wasn't aloud to sing it but that show was my favourite except for one.

My favourite was Oliver! at school I was Bill Sykes and I had a solo song, but of course it wasn’t the sweet primary school boys’ voice everyone imagined, put it this way I ate about a whole packet of soothers an hour. I think I am much better at character singing, for example from the list of three songs at the recent Dionysus auditions I had to pick "I’m getting married in the morning" from my fair lady because I thought I could feel more confident whether it was because I could hide my voice behind the rowdy, drunk father the Character was, or whether because I new I liked the song and I could pull it off. Anyway, The next show I did was "Treasure Island" again at school, I played a wonderful character "Blackdog" I was hoping to get Long john silverss but when I read the script I realised I had something I could get my teeth into because blackdog is defiantly the meanest Pirate about! Now were coming to Seussical, now this might take a while, It was a lovely Saturday and me and my sister Kay walked up the street along with our Mam. I remember thinking, even worrying "What a song from bloomin' High school musical" The audition was at all saints church which is on Newton hall were I live. I got there and found myself in amongst a small group of people Rachel best, Becky Howarth, Hannah Jobson, Charlie Ritson and maybe one or two others. We started the dancing, a lovely start for someone who has odd shaped feet like me infact I prefer to call dancing physical punishment because it is so hard I find.

Well the only thing to do is do my best. Half way through the practicing, two unrecognisable faces walked through the door I remember Susan saying "they have come all the way from Carlisle" we all tuned around "Carlisle" we said to one another. After physical punishment we moved on to our singing yes we all now the song, that lump of extra strong mature forty year old blue as the sea blue blue blue deep blue cringingly horrible stilton cheese taught up by, none the less, Disney. Well you cant complain you have to be as professional as possible and that means concentrate and listen and try your hardest and try and pretend your an angel of a child although that is hard for me. I remember making Steve laugh doing my own rap version of the song, try it it sounds cool. I was actually going to do it in the audition but I thought I better not. Hearing the unknown guy from Carlisle I thought there is a contender for the cat for sure. Before that I always thought that Joe Percel (if that’s how you spell it) would get the part. Anyway we got our acting pieces of paper and I looked and I though this is alright. The moment of truth, I got those tingling feelings and then the sensation of needin' the loo, if that happens to you before an audition. I walked in nice and confidently as I was told in the audition technique module a couple of months before.

Steve: Hello

Lewis: (loudly) hello

Steve: Nice big voice what do you want to do first.

Lewis: erm Ill get the singing over and done with!

That was the worst thing I could have done. Saying I wanted to get it over and done with. If I go back change that I defiantly would. The audition went on I don’t even think I did the acting as well as I could of. So as you guessed I was disappointed and when I came out Sandie said "How did you do" I looked at her and said "crap" I heard her laughing as I went back into the room were everyone else was. The letter came it read that I was a chorus member. I was quite proud I thought they would have not let me in. James the unidentified Carlisle guy was James and Gertrude Lisa his girlfriend. Seussical was great though and I loved every minute. Then the newspapers internet and other stuff had diyonisis audition notices in, so I went to them. I did as you know I’m getting married song which went well I also believe that my acting went well but again my physical punishment was ok a bit fast for my liking. I’m waiting for the outcome of these. Well if you have read this far you have climbed a mountain but it’s not finished. Because I still have Peter Pan to go this was a panto at the Gala in the 06-07 season I was Nibs a lostboy and I got paid £110 for doing it class of what! Last one the magic figure a brilliant piece of script from Barry's numerous files I really enjoyed that and the sound of laughter from my peers the folk in the audience an especially Steve was tremendous although I don’t know why they were laughing. My only typing figure is hurting now so I hope you enjoyed this whether you managed to read it all!

bye-bye

SYTG PA Charity Challenge

2008 poses a great challenge for all of us at SYTG PA. The cost to put on a production has spiralled immensely over the last couple of years. To let us keep the costs to our members at a minimum this means that we need to raise a significant amount of money this year (£4000!).

If we can not raise this money we either can not perform any shows or will be forced to raise membership fees – neither of which we want to do.
That’s why we need your help. If everyone involved with SYTG PA or those who feel that we do a good and valuable job does their bit to help to raise funds then we will make this target …and some!!!!

I feel very strongly about the reasons SYTG PA is here and even this week talking to past SYTG PA members I am absolutely sure we have a reason to be. Please help us to help you or else this time next year I may well be writing the final post from SYTG PA…….

Let’s all do a fantastic job this year and rise to this challenge as I know you can.
TTFN,
Steve.

Matt's Blog

Le Gasp! Its Matt!

Bonjour les dames et messieurs. I'm Matt and it is coming up my third year at SYTG this summer. The poor guys. I'm currently at Durham New College doing a National Diploma in Performing Arts, in which I study many types of acting, singing and of course dance. Its great fun. (If your thinking of doing PA for further education, go to New College.)

I love performing. Its what I do everyday. Its what I want to make a living from. My favourite shows are RENT, Rocky Horror Picture Show, Seussical, Sweeney Todd and Avenue Q. I would love to do any of these. Maybe not Seussical for a while though. What am i talking about? LETS DO IT AGAIN!!!

I'm also a big rock music enthusiast. My Chemical Romance, legends in their own right. Any type of rock, i'll like it. Especially Techno! Its like, 'Ha! Take that dirty chavs, i have my own rave!'. You might have guessed I like to be random. Its fun. But not as fun as SYTG. Lol, that was a cheesy comment. All my best friends are related to SYTG some way or another and i guess they all just make it that extra bit special. Which is another thing, we are all very special in more ways than one :D.

So that's a little about me.

Fare Well

I don't know what to sign this as i have so many nick names now......?

Gramsy's Blog

Hi People

A bit about who I am.
Well Im Joan better known at SYTG as Gramsy or Sandies Mam.
I got to know about SYTG through my gorgeous granddaughters Samantha Jessica and Emily. They were so involved with the shows that I didn't see much of them..and I missed them so much..so I thought well why not go along and support them ? and I did..i have no talents, i.e.., singing dancing or acting but if asked to do anything...I would give it a go.. I got a walk on part in Annie (they soon walked me off ) but..I didn't get any Booos !
My main part was a GOFER ! Go for this Go for that etc. and I loved it...everyone was a team and all the hard work pulled us together.....we were one big happy family..
Now I've been "Demoted" to the Committee not sure if I like this post but I have made a commitment for one year..so your stuck with me. but I can still be useful and if you want me to sing or anything like that I will (God help us) I'm worse than Sandie (my daughter)...honest...I work with elderly "some profoundly deaf people) and they tell me to shut up...so be warned.
Anyway..you're a great bunch of kids and you all have your own "special talents" and we want each and every one of you to Shine and Enjoy and remember:-
Smiling is infectious
Treat it like the flu
If you smile at everyone
They WILL smile back at you....
Love you all
Gramsy

Pauline's Blog

Hello it's Pauline here.

I've been involved with SYTG since January 2007.

I joined to offer support after an appeal for parental help. I don't have any theatrical experience but I am good with people and admire the work and talents of all the members. It's been such a great thing to do.

We are in the middle of performing Suessical at the Gala and must say how fantastic the whole cast are, I feel so proud of every single one.

My first show was Seven Brides for Seven Brothers (I remember how scared I was for the auditions) and I've been in every show since then (except Annie).(I've even been in a show with a different company - I wouldn't of dared go on stage if it wasn't for SYTG PA)
All the modules are really helpful and interesting, I've gained so much confidence since joining. It's great! Anyways
I can't wait for Seussical the Musical it'll be really fun! =]

Love, Kay x

Charlotte's Blog

Hi everyone

My name's Charlotte - a.k.a Annie - and I've been with sytg since our performance of Annie.

My journey started when one of my mates told me about an audition for Annie that was coming up, so I thought I'd go and see what it was like. Little did I know that a couple of months later I'd be on the art's centre stage playing the part of Annie! That's one thing I like about sytg. They give you a chance and you don't have to be fantastic at everything, they'll help you!

Anyway, the term after I found myself playing another couple of major parts as we did our "D" project. That was an amazing time, I'll never forget Joe's furry trousers, Hawaiian shirt and Rastafarian hat, it was soooooooo funny.

I'm now coming up to my 2nd major production with SYTG, we're doing Seussical the Musical, not a very famous musical over here but in America everyone knows about it. I must have played the cd about a hundred times now because I love it, hehehe! I've met some amazing people on my journey like Bekki n Joe n Norman n Sam n Matt n Lauren n Fizzy n zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz! I bet you are falling asleep; I won't go on any longer,

bibi from Charlotte xxx

p.s Btw Joe I found out that hungry chicken is off of Scrubs lolol!
